What is scree?

Sounds pretty bad doesn't it? Scree is simply defined as a pile of rocks or a sloping mass of rocks on the side of a mountain or base of a cliff. First recorded sometime between 1775 – 1785, scree is from the Old Norse word “skritha” meaning landslide.

Scree, Study No 1 – Fairborn, Ohio – 2019

Wandering through an old quarry in Fairborn, Ohio that was turned into a park in 2019, there were several piles of rocks. This is one of those images from that day. This image works very well as a black and white image due to the high level of texture and strong lines within the image. I wanted a unique name for this and other images that I will make in the future which pointed me to find and use the word "scree" for this image.
